Water management activities

  • Replacement of existing permeable (heavily degraded) pavements to improve rainwater infiltration properties
  • Modification of the paths slopes to direct rainwater runoff to areas covered by greenery
  • Modification of park path boundary edges to improve the effectiveness of rainwater infiltration into plant-covered areas

TARGET: Action related to stormwater management and use of water resources

  • Use of a collect system and drain rainwater from the shell roof (underground tanks) for use in watering public greenery and to reduce the use of tap water, as well as to reduce costs associated with repairing damage to the building due to flooding

TARGET 1: An activity related to the use of rainwater for park maintenance.

TARGET 2: Actions related to reducing expenditures to deal with the effects of heavy rains.

  • Renovation of the existing fountain with the use of rainwater coming from the roof of Zdrojowy Theatre in order to improve microclimatic conditions of the fountain surroundings (increase of air humidity, reduction of dust pollution from the street), as well as to increase the attractiveness of the place and the comfort of staying.

TARGET: An activity related to the use of rainwater for park maintenance.

Green space management activities

  • Expansion of the layered and species structure of the existing greenery in order to increase the biologically active area that has effective influence on the local climate of the city (historical center), to increase species diversity (by diversifying species composition, creating favorable habitats for various bird species).
  • Perform maintenance (in accordance with tree stand management) to increase the resilience of existing greenery systems to extreme weather conditions and improve the safety of site users.

TARGET 1: Activity related to positive influence of infrastructure elements on the microclimate of the surroundings (of the Resort Park) – reduction of the phenomenon of the Municipal Heat Island, reduction of pollution, reduction of the effects of adverse atmospheric phenomena.

TARGET 2: An activity related to the protection of tall greenery resources.

  • Planting cover plants – bushes to protect slopes from erosion and reduce stormwater runoff (increase retention area), and to increase biologically active area through woody plants.

TARGET 1: Actions related to the improvement of climatic conditions – at the microclimate scale

TARGET 2: Actions related to reducing the effects of destruction and degradation of soil conditions – thereby reducing the loss of infiltration characteristics of urban areas.

  • Improve soil conditions with the planting of cover bushes to protect exposed ground surfaces (increase retention area), and increase biologically active area through the use of woody plants.

TARGET 1: Climate improvement activities – at the microclimate scale.

TARGET 2: Actions related to reducing the effects of destruction and degradation of soil conditions – thereby reducing the loss of infiltration characteristics of urban areas.

TARGET: Actions to improve climat conditions in the playground environment. Increasing of species diversity. Introducing green screens with a varied layered structure to reduce adverse weather conditions.

Pro-environmental activities

  • Changing the color of the shell from dark to light to reduce the heating of the shell surface and reduce the adverse heat transfer around the shell (temperature reduction)

TARGET: Action related to the beneficial influence of infrastructure elements on the microclimate of the surroundings (Zdrojowy Park) – reduction of the Urban Heat Island phenomenon.

  • Replacement of waste cans with an increase in the number of units and introduction of segregation signature.
  • Introduction of decorative flowerbeds (in the form of umbrellas) for plants to increase the decorative and aesthetic value of the park.

TARGET 1: Action related to the beneficial influence of infrastructure elements on the microclimate of the surroundings (of the Resort Park) – reduction of the phenomenon of the Municipal Heat Island, reduction of pollution emissions.

TARGET 2: Action related to the social and health (preventive) aspect – healthy society reduced medical costs.

 

  • Replacement a light source with light emitting diodes (LEDs)

TARGET 1: Action related to reducing electricity consumption and thus reducing carbon dioxide generation, reducing ambient air overheating, to increase sustainability and reduce waste production.

TARGET 2: Action related to the reduction of light pollution and in order to reduce the adverse effects of the primary light source on the environment and human health.

 

  • Introducing bus stops with green elements to increase the area covered by greenery and to have a beneficial effect on the city’s microclimate.

TARGET: Actions related to the improvement of climatic conditions. Improvement of environmental conditions and living comfort of inhabitants.

  • Introduce outdoor rainwater tanks for children to use the water to maintain the green area.
  • Introduce raised beds to grow plants useful to insects for phenological and wildlife observation (observation of emerging insects).
  • Introduction of birdhouses.
